Recipes for OpenID Server enabling an existing site

Is there an equivalent recipe for adding OpenID Server functionality to 
an existing site?

I had a brief look at the PHP-PEAR Server example and got it running. 
But integrating it into an existing user database and login system 
didn't leap out at me. I guess I should dig deeper.
